Message from the Secretary General
From the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) we welcome you to the Chair in Contemporary China. A project that seeks to respond to the growing interest in the development of the People's Republic of China, and its commercial, political and cultural relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.
Its rapid rise as a global economic powerhouse has generated profound internal transformations at the social, environmental, technological, economic and governance levels, posing new challenges for academics and policymakers seeking to observe China and its impact and influence in our region.
Studying Contemporary China requires a constant renewal of the understanding of its social, economic and political structures, as well as the analysis of its relations with the rest of the world, its role within the international system, and its participation in regional and multilateral organizations.
In this way, FLACSO's Chair in Contemporary China seeks to create new knowledge for decision makers, in both public and private spheres, to analyze the development, impact and influence of China in the world, with special attention to Latin America and the Caribbean.
