The Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) is a regional, autonomous, international, intergovernmental, and multilateral institution. It was founded in 1957 with the objetive to promote research, graduate and training courses in the social sciences field. Today the FLACSO Agreement includes 18 State Members and 1 Observer State. During the last 64 years, FLACSO has conducted diverse academic activities: postgraduate programs and specialization courses; research; academic extension; and scientific and technical cooperation. These important activities are implemented in 14 academic headquarters. 

 

FLACSO is one of the main bridges between social- scientific research, knowledge, and public policy. It facilitates a space for dialogue and exchance among the most important actors in the region – governments, parliaments, international and civil society organizations and NGO ́s – with the idea of building fundamental agreements in public making regarding democracy, development, knowledge and integration troughout Latin American and the Caribbean. It conducts substantive and relevant research work on a variety of important regional themes, thus becoming a reference for a wide range of issue on political, sociological, economical, cultural and environmental themes, as well as other particular topics concerning social sciences. Through its graduate and specialized programs, it will continue to train high - level specialists.
