The Secretary General of FLACSO participates in a BRICS seminar on governance and cultural exchange.
The Secretary General of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO), Dr. Rebecca Forattini Lemos-Igreja, participated in the Seminar on Governance and Cultural Exchange of the BRICS, held within the framework of the bloc's 17th Summit.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Lemos-Igreja emphasized the need for Brazil to—as the only Latin American country that is a full member of the BRICS —incorporate into its actions the historical experience of regional integration and the lessons learned by the Latin America and the Caribbean countries.
She also stressed the need to promote more active regional participation in the bloc, through Brazil, incorporating the critical views and contributions that Latin America has made regarding global governance models.
During the presentation, the regional trajectory was highlighted in three key aspects:
Pluralism as a fundamental principle, which recognizes epistemic, institutional and cultural diversity;
Criticism of fragmented visions that hinder the construction of common development and well-being projects;
The valorization of concrete experiences from the Global South as a basis for horizontal, supportive, and innovative cooperation.
The presentation concluded with a firm call to articulate local knowledge, critical training, and interregional cooperation as essential tools for building a more just global governance, with its own identity and rooted in the reality of the Global South.
