FLACSO General Secretary, Dr. Josette Altmann-Borbón, participated this Friday, October 22, in the IV Symposium on the China-Latin America Dialogue of Civilizations, held in Beijing, People's Republic of China.
The main theme of the Symposium is "Mutual learning on development: towards a new exchange and cooperation between China and Latin America"; and his different presentations focus on areas such as development models, knowledge cooperation, poverty reduction, ecological civilization, the digital economy and smart cities, among others.
Dr. Altmann-Borbón participated as Keynote Speaker at the Opening Ceremony with the keynote address: "Transforming the crisis into an opportunity to deepen Sino-Latin American cooperation." Also participating were Yu Yunquan, President of the Academy of Contemporary Chinese and World Studies (ACCWS), Chai Yu, General Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS-CASS) and Ignacio Sánchez Díaz, President of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
In this edition, the forum was organized by institutions such as ACCWS, ILAS-CASS and FLACSO, with the participation of nearly 200 political leaders, diplomats, academics, the media, and heads of international organizations.
The initiative provides a platform for communication and interaction between policy makers, academics, experts and entrepreneurs from institutes, universities, industries and relevant fields in China and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Held for the first time in 2017, the Symposium has become one of the most influential public platforms in China and Latin America. This year, in the context of the pandemic, the event took place virtually and in person, with simultaneous interpretation in Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese.
