FLACSO Secretary General participates in the IV China- CELAC Ministerial Forum

FLACSO, through its Secretary General, actively participated in the IV China-CELAC Ministerial Forum. A strategic venue that gathered Heads of State, Heads of Government and Ministers of Foreign Affairs from 33 countries of Latin America, the Caribbean and the Chinese Government.
FLACSO's General Secretary, Dr. Rebecca Igreja stressed in the forum The Latin American and Caribbean region, its academia, its experts, including our own, have historically contributed and continue to do so in fostering a social and geographical space that actively addresses the model of development and societies that we wish to build (...)We believe that this ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum represents and reinforces the joint commitment of the governments of the region and China to building a common vision of development and fostering new global perspectives.

FLACSO made its accumulated experience and resources available to the countries present at the forum, proposing the creation of a Permanent Latin America-China Dialogue Programme, which would allow the articulation of academic, diplomatic and technical meetings to deepen mutual understanding and identify, through evidence and knowledge, common interests.
During this meeting, the discussion focused on the China-CELAC Action Plan, a joint commitment of the countries of the region with China to achieve mechanisms for the consolidation of the relationship, the promotion of synergies of mutual interest, the promotion of ties of friendship and learning between the peoples of the region and the Asian country, among other actions.
This edition of the ministerial meeting was attended by the Heads of State of China, Xi Jingping; Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; Chile, Gabriel Boric; Colombia, Gustavo Petro; the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 33 CELAC member countries and international organisations such as PARLATINO, PARLACEN, ECLAC, CAF and FLACSO.
