On April 28, the Chinese-Latin American Cooperation and Knowledge Exchange Program (PRO-CICCLA) was launched, co-sponsored by FLACSO General Secretariat and which included the participation of Dr. Josette Altmann-Borbón, General Secretary of the organization.

The Program seeks to deepen China's relations with the region and includes a Lecture Series organized jointly by China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CKNI), the Chinese Association for Latin American Studies (CALAS), the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO), the Center for Chinese and Latin American Studies (CECLA), the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), and the Latin American Association for Chinese Studies (ALAECh).

During the launch ceremony held at the Latin American Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (ILAS-CASS) in Beijing, Dr. Guo Cunhai, Director of the Department of Social and Cultural Studies (ILAS-CASS) and Coordinator of CECLA; Dr. Ke Chunxiao, Deputy Director of CNKI; Dr. Yuan Dongzhen, Deputy Director and Secretary General of CALAS; and Dr. Zuo Xiaoyua, Director of the Center for Latin American Studies at the China University of Foreign Relations (CFAU) participated in person.

In addition to Dr. Altmann-Borbón, Dr. Ignacio Villagrán, Director of ALAECh; Dr. Alicia Girón, professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); Dr. Pablo Vommaro, CLACSO Research Director, Prof. Sergio Rivero, political scientist specializing in Chinese economics and doctoral student at the Central American Institute of Public Administration-ICAP; the MBA / MPA Esteban Zolezzi, Regional Coordinator of Finance and Administration of FLACSO; and Dr. Nicolás Damin, host of the Lecture Series who will speak about China.

“We are living in hard times, but also interesting times; these are times that have placed science and academia at the center of public debate. The post-pandemic world has to be different. It is still too early to know what form it will take, what we are clear about is that we all have the responsibility to contribute to make it a better world ”, said Dr. Altmann-Borbón in her participation.

“In this context, FLACSO, an institution that has been accompanying the region for 65 years in the different cycles of its history, has great potential. Its nature as an intergovernmental body with a presence in the Latin American and Caribbean region allows it to be a bridge between the world of ideas and decision makers, ”she added.

Dr. Altmann-Borbón highlighted that it is through cooperation that change can be learned and a shared vision of progress and well-being can be created.

"Aware of the challenges and challenges of the 21st century, Flacso has proposed to strengthen academic and cooperation relations with Asia-Pacific, to generate a greater exchange and mutual understanding, in order to generate increasingly plural, diverse and inclusive societies" , assured the Secretary General.

“For Flacso, activities such as this series of conferences are very important because they allow us not only to exchange ideas and knowledge, but also to promote important scenarios of joint collaborations that come to generate and make knowledge of a social enterprise designed for the benefit of all societies. ”, He concluded.

According to Dr. Guo Cunhai, deputy secretary general of CALAS and coordinator of CECLA, the co-sponsors of the China-Latin America Conference Cycles plan to invite institutions involved in China-related research in Latin America to jointly create the Alliance for Chinese Studies of Latin America, strengthening exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Latin American intellectuals and promoting the construction of a Sino-Latin American academic community and coordinating the development of Chinese studies in that region.

Hoping to promote China-Latin America development cooperation and mutual learning through continuous and systematic exchange and dissemination of knowledge, this program seeks to contribute to a network to facilitate joint understanding and solution of global problems, from a reflective paradigm and with tools from the social sciences.

The Chinese-Latin American Cooperation and Knowledge Exchange Program (PRO-CICCLA) will be held from May 7 to November 26, 2021. It consists of 30 conferences with Chinese and Latin American experts in Social Sciences dedicated to the study of bilateral ties.
