On Friday, October 22, the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) and the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (ILAS-CASS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote and strengthen cooperation in the field of research, knowledge generation and academic exchange.

The signing was carried out in a virtual transmission from San José and Beijing in the framework of the IV Seminar “China and Latin America and the Caribbean: Dialogue between civilizations”. The event was attended by think tanks, the media, universities, publishers, as well as international organizations, local governments of China, and diplomatic representations of different countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in Beijing.

The Director of ILAS-CASS, Dr. Chai Yu assured that the signing of the agreement between the two institutions will not only further deepen academic exchanges and cooperation between the two parties, but will also help to jointly promote research in Social Sciences in Latin America and China.

This Memorandum of Understanding is part of the deepening of the ties of the General Secretariat of FLACSO with China, after the official launch on October 12 of the Chair in Contemporary China of FLACSO, an initiative developed with the cooperation of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Costa Rica and the ILAS-CASS.
